General information

The Inner Shell Spectroscopy beamline (8-ID) is a damping wiggler beamline dedicated to hard X-ray spectroscopy studies. The technical specifications of the beamline can be found in J. Synchrotron Rad. (2022). 29, 1095–1106.

Available methods

  • X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS)
  • Energy range 4.8 - 31 keV (nominal range up to 35 keV; please contact beamline staff if interested)
  • Beam size 1 mm × 1 mm (down to 50 µm × 50 µm with focusing optics)
  • Detection with ion chambers, silicon diode (PIPS), and 4-element Silicon Drift Diode (SDD) detector
  • High energy resolution fluorescence-detected (HERFD) XAS
  • X-ray Emission Spectroscopy (XES) in Johann or von Hamos geometry
  • Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (RIXS, Resonant XES)

  • Clausen (capillary) cell
  • Jet liquid sample delivery system
  • He closed-cycle cryostat (6K and above)
  • Cryostream – available from the equipment pool
